The Benefits of LED Lighting

If you haven’t heard or read about it already, let us bring you up to speed on LED lighting and its many advantages.  LEDs, or light-emitting diodes, are small light sources that become illuminated by the movement of electrons through a semiconductor material.  LEDs are extremely efficient and long-lasting.  In fact, when you compare them to other lighting methods available on the market today, you will discover that LED lighting is by far the most energy-efficient solution, with benefits far outweighing the cost.  Here are just a few of the advantages:

Long Life:

LED bulbs and diodes have a life expectation of up to 100,000 hours.  That is 11 years of continuous operation, or 22 years of 50 percent operation.

Energy Efficient:

LED lighting is estimated to use 75 to 90 percent less energy than traditional lighting.

Size:

They measure from 3 to 8 mm long and can be used in small spaces that are too small for other light bulbs.

No UV Emissions

LED lighting produces little infrared light and close to no UV emissions, therefore it is suitable for goods that are sensitive to heat or sensitive to UV light, as would be needed in museums, art galleries, etc.

Durable:

LEDs are highly durable and built with sturdy components that can withstand tough conditions.

Instant Lighting:

When powered on, LED lights brighten up immediately.  Traditional lighting may take several seconds to reach full brightness.

Frequent Switching:

LED lights can be switched on and off frequently without affecting the LED’s lifetime or light emission, whereas conventional methods have drastically reduced life expectancy.

Directional:

LEDs give off light in a specific direction, allowing the light to be contained in an area, whereas incandescent and fluorescent bulbs emit light in all directions, wasting energy.

Low Temperature:

LEDs remain cool, whereby incandescent bulbs give off 90 percent of their energy as heat and compact fluorescent bulbs waste 80 percent as heat.

Ecologically Friendly:

LED lights are toxin free and are 100 percent recyclable.

According to Energy.gov, widespread use of LED lighting has the greatest potential impact on energy savings in the U.S.  By 2035, Energy.gov estimated that the widespread use of LEDs could save approximately 569 Twh annually.  That is equivalent to an annual energy output of more than 92 1,000 MW power plants.
