Energy Saving Tips for Your Business

Energy saving translates to money saving for your business. Follow these simple tips and watch your energy bill shrink this month:

Adjust the Thermostat– Adjust your thermostat just seven to ten degrees for eight hours per day and save a decent percentage on your bill. Buy a programmable thermostat that will do this automatically for you.

Use Fans– Don’t turn up the air conditioning if a fan will do the trick. Fans can make a room feel up to ten degrees cooler.

Block the Sun– Close blinds and drapes on the east and west sides of your building when it’s hot outside. When it’s cold, unblock windows on the southern side to contribute solar heat.

Clean HVAC Filters- Clean or replace HVAC filters according to the recommended schedule. Make sure registers, baseboards, heaters, and radiators are clean and clear of furniture or drapes.

Check the Duct System- Ask your service technician to check the duct system for leaks, faulty filters, or other issues. A leaky duct can lose 15-20% of airflow.

Use Natural Light- No need to turn on the office light when you’ve got a big window and it’s bright outside.

Install Motion Sensors- Put motion sensors in areas like conference rooms, bathrooms, and break rooms. No need to worry about forgetting to turn off the light.

Replace Incandescent Bulbs- Replace those bulbs with higher efficiency fixtures that may use up to 75% less energy and last 10 times longer.

Use Sleep Mode- Ask employees to set their computers to sleep mode after a certain amount of time. You can also do this with printers.

Unplug- Ask employees to unplug mobile phone chargers when finished charging. The same goes for anything else that is plugged in and not being used. Electronics use up energy when they are plugged in, even if they are not turned on.
